Aerials are those large showy dance moves you would traditionally associate with the lively rock 'n' roll of the 50s & 60s. In a four hour workshop we take you step by step through around 7 or 8 aerials from our repertoire of over 100. They can then be incorporated in your Modern Jive or Lindy Hop.
The next aerials workshop will be with Andy and Tas and will take place on Sunday February 5th 2012 (1:30pm till 5:30pm) in Hook, Hampshire (just off junction 5 of M3)
Hook community centre, Ravenscroft, Hook, Hampshire RG27 9NN
We can take a maximum of 12 couples, so please book in advance - call Andy on 07717 177437
Cost of workshop is £25 per person, though this will be discounted to £20 if we get more than 10 couples.
A typical 4 hour workshop allows time for a good warm up and stretch, and also time for a 15 minute snack break in the middle.
We usually get a whole range of abilities and experience, so we tend to start off gently to help everyone get their confidence - then we get big and bouncy.
We finish off by summarising all we have done, running through each of the moves and giving the opportunity for anyone to take video footage.
Andy has been 3 times UK aerials champion and has a repertoire of over 100 aerials.
Anna is Andy's regular Lindy Hop partner and is extremely confident in flying through the air several times in every cabaret they perform.
Tas is an aerials expert in her own right, winning the 2007 UK aerials championships at Beach Boogie. She proves that humans can fly.
Andy teaches confidently with either partner, and we are confident that whichever dynamic duo are in action, you will be inspired to great achievements.

We welcome dancers of all levels of experience, from Modern Jive, Lindy Hop and other partner dances. Whether you turn out to be a natural, or if you decide the very little aerial you learn at the beginning is your favourite, we think you'll have a great time.
Aerials take lots of practice to perfect, so we recommend you come along with a partner you dance with fairly regularly. For safety reasons we do not pair up people with strangers, so please book in pairs.
Find out when you get there. We say this because it is difficult to describe the moves we do, and we also make adjustments to the material as we go through the workshop. You can be assured you will be taught a nice variety of aerials from our repertoire of around 100 moves. You will have to come to a lot of workshops before you start repeating moves.
Firstly you need a partner who you feel confident with. This could be somebody you don't know so well, but if you dance well with them at ground level, then leaping in the air should prove to be more enjoyable than scary.
Bring a snack for the half time break - you'll need plenty of energy to make the most of the second half.
Taking part in an aerials class is more of a sport than a social dance occasion. Wear Light clothing, T-shirts, jogging pants, leggings, and no belts, jewelry or watches. For your feet - sports shoes, or dance trainers.
And finally, we recommend bras that don’t fall off (women only), and for the men a cricket box (if your partner’s a bit unpredictable).
Classes start prompt with a comprehensive warm-up. This is important (and a lot of fun) so aim to arrive a few minutes early.
You can be rest assured you will be taught as safely as possible by the most experienced teachers in the UK. However there is a risk involved (as there is in any sport) so please be aware of this. We cannot accept responsibility for any accidents during the class.
A move with any danger element will be taught in stages. Please do not attempt the next stage until we have clearly demonstrated it. As we reach the danger element, we pair you up with another couple so that one couple can spot (protect and assist) while the other couple tries the move.
For safety and teaching quality reasons, there is a size limit on each class. Hence it is essential to book in advance. |
