For the regular visitors to Rock Bottoms who don't need to hear everything again, we have started with the details specific to this event. Further down you'll find more general information about the hotel, travel etc.

We are completely full for this weekend. If you know anybody who has missed out then let them know we are now taking bookings for 2020.

- Jan 17th-20th in the Victoria Hotel (teachers include Nick & Diana)

There is an awful lot of nasty flu about, so please us the hand sanitisers in the hotel, and please take all precautions so as not to pass on any nasty germs you may have. We want everybody to have a happy and healthy weekend.

Angela and Dave - Blues

We will have our usual 'Shoe exchange' happening again as it has proved extremely popular. So if you have any unwanted TANGO shoes still in good condition that you would like to sell, bring them along. Just shoes please , NOT CLOTHES. Whether selling or buying, please follow our instructions displayed on the stall.

If you want new shoes we have "Bespoke Shoes" with us selling their Italian collection.
For a little more shopping we have the wonderful clothes from Libisha Steele arriving on Friday and staying for Saturday but not Sunday.

The Theme for the Saturday night is 'BLACK & WHITE'. This is such an easy theme as it could mean get glommed up in your favourite black or white attire. Or of course the quirky ones amongst you could be a zebra, panda, newspaper, snowman etc. Or you could be somebody famous with black hair and a white suit (such as Elvis).

Workshops will run throughout Saturday and Sunday
A schedule of workshops for the weekend should be on our website this weekend. This of course is subject to refinement so make sure you collect a printed copy on arrival. See www.rockbottoms.com

There will be Tango workshops at 4 levels from our international superstar teachers. Please join the appropriate level for your experience - see below for details.
Level 1 is not absolute beginner - it is really aimed at people in their first year of Tango. This level will push on and progress throughout the weekend so please stick with it to gain the full benefit. This will be the smallest class size so you'll get the most attention from teachers.
Level 2 is for those with 1 to 3 years of regular Tango experience,
Leval 3 is for those with more than 3 years experience.. Level 4 is for the very experienced, so the teachers will expect great technique and great confidence.

On Sunday evening, the now prestigious Rock Bottoms Tango Lucky Dip competition takes place at 10pm. Enter as individuals - we pair you up. It's only short - something like 3 rounds of 2 or 3 minutes - just enough time for the teachers to select their favourites. It's always very popular so get your names to Hev as soon as possible. Splendid trophies this year!

We usually have this on Saturday Night only, but as we have so much to squeeze in, we may well split the cabaret over Saturday AND Sunday. Don't go leaving early, you could miss the best bit.

Our teachers are happy to do Private lessons, Hev can collate them for Friday afternoon but Saturday and Sunday ones are limited due to their teaching duties with us. Pls contact Hev for Prices and availabilty.

Our masseurs NORBERT and JANE are fabulous and so they get booked up. As we require payment at booking, we don't accept bookings until at Torquay. However we have some extra slots on Friday afternoon which can be reserved in advance. Please contact Hev in advance if you would like a Friday afternoon massage (£35 per hour)

We film all the workshop material and the Cabarets. We also have Alex our professional photographer taking pictures throughout the weekend. This footage and al pictures appear on the DVD and can be ordered for £20 at the Rockbottoms desk.

We are doing all we can to ensure the ballroom floor is not a scary place for those of you fairly new to Tango. We want it to feel just as relaxed and friendly as any other Rock Bottoms event. So we encourage all confident Tango dancers to wear a taxi bracelet for a short while each night. While you are wearing the bracelet you are saying you are free to dance with any of the less confident dancers. It doesn't make you a teacher - just a kind dancer.

In our attempt to save the planet, and to raise money for charity, we will be selling Rock Bottoms water bottles. They are £5 each and all profits go to charity. We will have a label printer available to personalise your bottle.

For help in getting to the Derwent Hotel, please check out the hotel pages of our website. Or plug TQ2 5HL into your Sat Nav.

During our Rock Bottoms weekends the Derwent Hotel car park usually fills up. You are allowed to park In any of the car parks in the complex (Carlton, Victoria, Toorak. Whichever car park you are in, please grab a parking permit from the Derwent reception and display it in your car! If you park anywhere that could block somebody in, please display your name and mobile number on the dashboard.
If you cannot find anything within the resort look out for the Riveria centre (big building kinda next door!) HUGE car park, it charges £6 a day BUT our hotel will re-emberse you if you bring the ticket along at the end – aw that's nice;-)

You may arrive at the hotel any time on Friday, and use the facilities such as the swimming pool.
3pm - Your rooms will be available from 3pm - collect your room key, wrist band and printed schedule from hotel reception.
4:30pm to 6pm - "Meet and Greet" is the first Rock Bottoms activity when we invite you to join us at "Ben's Barrow" for a cuppa and a bickie. Bar also open.

8:45pm - Dancing starts at 8:45 in both the Nuevo and the Traditional venues, with a short bottom warmer class for all at 9pm in the Nuevo venue.

All evening dances start at 8:45 in both the Traditional room and the Nuevo room. Extras such as teacher intros on Friday, cabaret on Saturday, competition on Sunday will take place in the Nuevo room (Starlight Lounge). The Traditional room will continue playing music throughout.
Also we have Modern Jive from 10:30pm to 12:30am each night in the Secret Disco, followed by Blues. On Friday and Saturday there will be a Blues taster class at 12:30am.

From around 2:45pm till 4:45pm on Sunday we'll be having the now regular feature of a tea dance in the main ballroom. The first hour of the tea dance will have Traditional music and the second hour will be Nuevo.

Your package includes breakfast and evening meals for the 3 nights of your stay. All meals are served in the hotel dining room, where you may choose to sit with friends or meet some new people.
To easily meet new people during dinner, try our "Meet & Eat" tables – one or two large group tables identified by a balloon or two (door staff can guide you to these tables).
If you are a group wanting to sit together at dinner then we suggest you put your own reserved sign on the table of your choice.

The on site Bistro is a great place for lunch (between about 12 and 4). Very sociable layout and good food - 10% discount for Rock Bottomers. If you are planning to go out for lunch, it's about a five minute walk to the sea front or a twenty minute walk into town.

The hotel has their very own Aztec Spa too… all manner of treatments happening there. The hotel also has a wonderful hairdressing Salon, Hev goes EVERY time, the staff and brilliant and it's a complete bargain, they are especially good at 'Up' doo's.
If you have any further enquiries about hotel facilities, or if you'd like to make an advance booking, then call them on 01803 400100.

Our workshop venues and evening venues are private to Rock Bottoms, so security is not a big issue. If you all wear your wristbands (issued on arrival) we'll have no problem in identifying anyone who shouldn't be there. This wristband will also get you your 10% discount on your lunch at the hotel Bistro.

You may brink your own soft drinks into the workshops during the day, but please use the hotel bars for drinks in the evenings. Water fountains will be provided at all venues for use day and night.
You can bring your own wine into dinner but there is a corkage charge per bottle. So we advise ordering at your table, we've had their house white and red, just for research you understand, and they are both excellent.
